Polyethylene

Polyethylene (abbreviated PE) or polythene (IUPAC name polyethene or poly(methylene)) is the most common plastic.

Polyethylene (abbreviated PE) or polythene (IUPAC name polyethene or poly(methylene)) is the most common plastic. Polyethylene is classified into several different categories based mostly on its density and branching. Its mechanical properties depend significantly on variables such as the extent and type of branching, the crystal structure and the molecular weight. With regard to sold volumes, the most important polyethylene grades are HDPELLDPE and LDPE.

Special products available on request from our polyethylene department include:

  • Polyethylene Dewatering header pipes
  • Polyethylene Manholes
  • Polyethylene Inspection chambers
  • Polyethylene Manifolds

Product Standards & Industry Guidelines

For the best practise of installing Polyethylene pipe systems, have a look at Poly Pete for some instruction. The standard for the installation of PE systems for use in water situation is AS/NZS 2033:2008 Installation of polyethylene pipe systems

There are a number of current standards that Strata Precision Plastics are required to manufacture and supply fittings to. For a copy of these standards, click here

AS/NZS:4130:2009, Polyethylene (PE) pipes for pressure applications

AS/NZS 4129:2008, Fittings for polyethylene (PE) pipes for pressure applications

AS/NZS 4087:2011, Metallic flanges for waterworks purposes

AS/NZS 5065:2005, Polyethylene and Polypropylene pipes and fittings for drainage and sewerage applications

AS2129:2000, Flanges for pipes, valves and fittings

There is also several industry guidelines, including PIPA Auspoly recommendations we use when we are manufacturing or supplying fittings. For more information about PIPA, click here

Derating for fabricated fittings – PIPA

Backing Rings – PIPA

Welding Parameters – PIPA

Fusion Fittings – PIPA
